What is writing?

If I were asked what the essential question or theme of the writing project was this summer...What is writing?...would be it. My views on this subject have changed throughout the institute. I started off with the idea that writing only incorporates the written word, but as the days turned into weeks, I realized that writing is so much more than that. In fact, if given the opportunity, I would abolish the word "writing" and replace it with "composing." For me the traditional use of the word "writing" is too limiting. "Writing" is about communication, expressing thoughts, and sharing of ideas. Sometimes the mode of my communicaiton can be better expressed through alternative means. I am a visual learner and using multiple-modalities such as blogs, videos, pictures, and websites I can begin to express myself in the ways that truly begin to reflect my true intentions. And so, I while I have composed these words using traditional methods, I encourage you to explore my website and learn more about me through my non-traditional expressions. |
